Danville OKs assistant principal for North Ridge
DANVILLE — A Chicago-area educator with 17 years of experience has been tapped to help lead North Ridge Middle School next year.
The Danville school board on Wednesday approved appointing Jennifer Richardson as the school's assistant principal effective Aug. 1.
Richardson will succeed Angelique Simon, who will become Liberty Elementary's principal on July 1. Richardson will earn an annual salary of $70,000 plus benefits.
Richardson, who grew up in Atlanta, holds a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Georgia, a master's degree from Northwestern, a master's degree in school business management from Northern Illinois and an administrative Type 75 endorsement from Northeastern Illinois.
She launched her career as a elementary music teacher in the Elgin school district in 1997, then taught music and drama in the Des Plaines district. She also served as that district's curriculum coordinator for fine arts.
For the last four years, Richardson has worked as the Altgeld-Murray site director for By the Hand Club for Kids, a Chicago-based after-school program that serves low-income, inner-city students.
While the experience gave her an opportunity to work with under-served children, Richardson said she missed the public school environment.
"I wanted to come back to a purely academic setting," she said.
