UI student dies in fall from apartment building

CHAMPAIGN - A University of Illinois student from Franklin Park died Friday night after a fall from a Campustown high-rise.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Krzysztof J. Jablonski, 22, was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m. outside the Park Place Tower at 202 E. Green St., C.

Northrup said Mr. Jablonski lived in the building, which sits on the northeast corner of Green and Second streets.

A preliminary investigation revealed that he may have fallen or possibly jumped. Northrup and the Champaign police are investigating.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

This is extremely sad.

Taking one's life winds the strands of thought into something overwhelmingly serious.

Blessings to all who have lost.

Has it been confirmed that he jumped off the building intentionally?

I did not know this young man personally, but he is a friend of a friend. I lived at Park Place Tower during my senior year at U of I so I guess this kind of hits home in a weird way. It was a great place to live and, at least when I lived there, very easy to make friends. Everyone was outgoing and kind to each other, and lent a helping hand when one was needed.

It sounds as if he was a very kind-hearted person. Very sad to hear about this. Whether intentional or accidental, I hope his family and friends find some closure in this, and I offer my sincerest condolences to them both.
