Unit 4 Schools hall monitor resigns
A hall monitor in Champaign public schools has resigned after he was accused of groping a female student in a school last year.
Twenty-seven year-old Herbert Howard had faced a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in court. But that charge was ultimately dismissed after officials became concerned about the emotional toll the case would take on the 13 year-old victim.
The Unit 4 school board was scheduled to vote Monday night on whether to fire Howard. But, a district spokseperson said he resigned instead.
Officials said the inappropriate touching took place in November in a elevator at Edison Middle School. They said Howard groped the girl above her clothes on her crotch and rear end.
