One killed, two hurt in DeWitt accident

DEWITT — One Clinton man was killed and two others injured in a single-vehicle crash west of DeWitt Tuesday evening.

DeWitt County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Walker said the accident happened about 6 p.m. when the driver was unable to negotiate an S-curve on the DeWitt Road and lost control of his car.

"He ran off the right shoulder and over-corrected, went into the left ditch, and rolled over several times," said Walker.

Two passengers in the car were thrown out. Walker said they were apparently headed east to go fishing. The accident occurred east of the nuclear power plant near the DeWitt Cemetery.

DeWitt County Coroner Randy Rice identified the driver as Erick Briseno, 20. Rice said Mr. Briseno was pronounced dead at the scene. He remained in the car.

His passengers were Mick Low-Prudhomme, 21, who was airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, and David Gomez, 21, who was transported to a hospital by ambulance. A Carle spokesman said there was no information available on either man.

Walker said there was another person driving in front of the men who looked in his rear view mirror in time to see the Honda Civic flip at least twice.

Rice said an autopsy was to be done on Mr. Briseno Wednesday.
