Summer '14: County fair lineup

With county fair season kicking off in less than a month, here’s a quick look at where to go and what you’ll see, courtesy The News-Gazette’s Mike Colgan.

Champaign County Fair

July 18-26

Whether you’re into motor sports or music, this fair has something you will like on its nightly grandstand schedule. This year’s headliner: country star and former American Idol champion Scotty McCreery.

Coles County Fair

July 27-Aug. 3

Animals dominate this fair, which features four days of harness racing, rodeo and a western horseshoe. For those wanting louder entertainment, check out the truck and tractor pulls or the demo derby.

Edgar County Fair

July 19-26

The Monster Truck Show was a big hit last year and has been expanded this summer. The demo derby is also a mainstay at the Paris gathering.

Farmer City/DeWitt County Fair

July 15-19

The fair kicks off in style with the Queen and Little Miss pageants. With the fairgrounds being home to the Farmer City Raceway, you can bet the motor sports events will be big.

Ford County Fair

June 22-28

Melvin is the place to be for country music when Parmalee take the stage. New to the fair this year: a remote control car event and broncos, which have been added to the rodeo.

Iroquois County Fair

July 16-21

Located about two miles north of Crescent City, this event gets off with a smashing start when Team Rock, a martial arts breaking group, preforms. The fair’s biggest draw is the demolition derby.

Livingston County Fair

July 14-17

A NASCAR simulator is available every day. Another big draw: the Ag Olympics and Ambassador Games, open to kids 8-18. More than 100 of them will be participating at the Pontiac site.

McLean County Fair

July 30-Aug. 3

The Food and Farm Discovery Zone is a free and kid-friendly, with baby chicks, piglets and educational opportunities. Plus, don’t miss one of, if not the best, carnivals in the area.

Moultrie-Douglas County Fair

July 6-12

Big-time talent comes to Arthur when country star Lorrie Morgan takes the stage on the fair’s final night. Enjoy all the things fairs are about with food and fun for the entire family.

Piatt County Fair

June 17-22

Nightly entertainment in the beer tent for the grown-ups and inflatables for the kids. The ITPA Tractor Pull on Friday night will have the crowd in Cerro Gordo on their feet.

Vermilion County Fair

June 24-28

As if cotton candy isn’t sweet enough, the Chicago Honey Bears will perform and conduct a kids dance workshop before the talent contest closes the fair Saturday night. More entertainment will be announced as the fair date moves closer.
