Danville considers almost $600,000 in computer expenses

DANVILLE — School officials today could take a step to replace outdated computer equipment in the Danville district.

Board members will vote on whether to approve two lease agreements — totaling $595,806, including interest — with HP Financial Services.

Under the first agreement, the district would pay $50,403 a year for five years for 271 desktop computers that need to be replaced, according to information technology Director Scott Williams. Under the second, the district would pay $85,948 a year for four years for 543 laptops.

The firm offered the lowest of three bids. And the district has an ongoing master lease with the company for previous purchases.

Superintendent Mark Denman said the district's computers are on a five-year replacement cycle.

"We took last year off as a budget-savings device," he said.

He added the funding is included in next year's budget.

Also at the meeting, buildings and grounds Director Ron Henton hopes to bring a bid to demolish the old Risser Electric Building at 619 N. Jackson St. to the board for approval.

"It's contingent upon whether we get what we feel is a reasonable bid," Denman said.

The property, which lies south of Danville High School's campus, includes a brick building and metal structures in the back.

The district bought the property for future campus development. However, there are no immediate plans for it.
