Danville police officer injured in shootout

DANVILLE — A police officer was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being shot Friday evening.

Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said the officer approached an individual walking in the 200 block of Kentucky Street around 5:30 p.m. Friday, when that person turned and fired at the officer.

The officer was hit and fired back at the shooter, but police do not know if the other person was injured. The suspect ran away from the scene, and a search is under way.

The only description available was that the shooter was a white man with multiple tattoos.
