Pink Power Mom nominations open

Nominations are being accepted for Pink Power Mom, a national program that honors eight women who have a personal connection to breast cancer and are role models to their families and communities.

For each of the winners selected, $9,000 is awarded over five years for the mom's charity of choice, giving each winning mom a chance to make a further impact on her community, according to the program sponsor, baby product maker Kids II.

Pink Power Mom winners have shown inspiration, strength and service in the face of adversity, the company said.

"We seek out moms who not only are breast cancer warriors themselves, but who also are also using their strength and experience to make a difference in the lives of others impacted by cancer," said Heidi Floyd, Pink Power Mom executive director and a 2009 award winner in a statement.

The program has honored 56 women so far. One of the 2013 honorees was author/mentor and breast cancer patient Jennifer Smith of Champaign, who passed away last September.

Nominations for 2014 Pink Power Mom will be accepted through June 26, and can be entered online at pinkpowermom.com

Winners will be announced in October during breast cancer awareness month and honored in Atlanta in February 2015.
