Man sentenced to probation for indecent solicitation of a child
URBANA — An Urbana man who admitted he planned inappropriate sexual contact with a girl in his care has been sentenced to two years of probation.
Matthew Stroh, 25, whose last known address was in the 700 block of Colorado Avenue, pleaded guilty Monday before Champaign County Judge Heidi Ladd to indecent solicitation of a child.
The charge stemmed from an act that occurred in late July at a home in Urbana with a then 8-year-old girl.
The girl reported to her mother, who reported to police, that Stroh allegedly fondled her.
Stroh had been charged with the more serious predatory criminal sexual assault of a child but Assistant State's Attorney Scott Bennett said the child was having difficulty testifying about what had happened to her.
Stroh agreed to plead guilty to the less serious solicitation charge that said he was trying to get the child to perform a sex act.
In exchange for the plea, the other counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child were dismissed.
Stroh has been in the Illinois Department of Corrections since November for possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated driving under the influence.
He pleaded guilty to those charges in November, admitting he drove off from a Rantoul gas station on Sept. 22 while he drunk in a stolen truck. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
