Center for women changes name to reflect mission

CHAMPAIGN — The Center for Women in Transition has changed its name to Courage Connection.

The name was selected to better represent what the local nonprofit agency is about, says its Director of Development Mary Wallace.

It provides both supportive housing and services to homeless women and children and a shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Wallace said former staff members and clients were asked what the agency means to them and they talked about the courage to make changes.

"It's about the courage to go make change in your life and the courage to move you forward," she said.

The agency served nearly 700 clients last year, Wallace said.

The new name and identity will also appear on the agency's thrift store, formerly called Transitions, at Lincoln Square, Urbana.
