Champaign man charged in drug case

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly had cocaine in a house in that city has been criminally charged.

Assistant State's Attorney Troy Lozar said Shawndrell R. Taylor, 33, who listed an address in the 1600 block of Gates Place, was arrested Wednesday.

Champaign police had obtained a search warrant for a home in the 100 block of East Washington Street and served it Wednesday. In a bedroom linked to Taylor, police found about 5 grams of cocaine and about an ounce of cannabis, Lozar said.

The prosecutor said Taylor admitted selling drugs.

Taylor was charged Thursday with possession with intent to deliver controlled substance, a Class 1 felony carrying penalties upon conviction ranging from probation to four to 15 years in prison.

Lozar said Taylor has prior convictions for delivery of a controlled substance, obstructing justice, possession of cannabis and trespass.

Judge John Kennedy set Taylor's bond at $25,000 and told him to be back in court July 8.
