"Ice Cream and Independence" to return to Virginia Theatre

A local tradition is making its way back in time for the Independence Day weekend.

After a three year hiatus, "Ice Cream and Independence" will return to the Virginia Theatre in Champaign on July 3.  The event will feature Americana music performed by the Canadian Brass and the Champaign-Urbana Civic Wind bands.

Virginia Theatre Director Steven Bentz and University of Illinois Interim Director of Bands Dr. Linda Moorhouse announced the event Friday on A Penny For Your Thoughts on WDWS.  Moorhouse explained who participates in the local wind band.

The Canadian Brass, considered one of the top brass ensembles in the world, was formed in 1970 and tours all over the globe every year.  Bentz said the combination of the two bands will be quite a spectacle.

As for the ice cream, frozen yogurt will be provided by TCBY outside the theatre at 5 p.m. before the concert. Music will begin at 7 p.m.
Tickets are reserved seating and will be available for purchase beginning next Wednesday at 10 a.m. VIP tickets will give you front row seats and the opportunity to meet the Canadian Brass band before the concert.
