TODAY'S ONLINE QUESTION: Unit 4 Superintendent Judy Wiegand says the "reality" is few students walk to Central High School. How many district students actually live within walking distance of the school they go to?

The district responded with a list of how many kids live within 1.5 miles of the schools they attend. (With schools of choice, elementary students may live closer to another school.)

Here's what the numbers show:

— A total of 308 students live within walking distance of Central.

— Centennial's total was actually higher — 532.

— About 200 students, more or less, live within walking distance of the three middle schools — 256 at Jefferson, 221 at Edison and 192 at Franklin.

— Numbers vary at the elementary schools: Barkstall 110, Bottenfield 98, Carrie Busey 120, Stratton 211, Dr. Howard 127, Garden Hills 194, Kenwood 174, Robeson 97, South Side 149, Washington 82 and Westview 149.
