Man charged with stealing from employer

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly stole thousands of dollars of merchandise from his employer has been criminally charged.

Chad Vail, 32, who listed an address in the 0-100 block of Thatcham Drive, was released on his own recognizance after being arrested Tuesday by Rantoul police.

Judge John Kennedy told him to be back in court July 15 on the felony theft charge.

Vail is accused of stealing two cross bows, ammunition, tools and a gun safe, valued at a total $3,000, from the Rural King store in Rantoul. The theft allegedly occurred on April 3.

A Rantoul police report said Vail admitted that he was upset with his employer for transferring him from the Champaign store to the Rantoul store so he took the items and loaded them into his car. Some of the items were taken to a storage unit, the report said.
