Rantoul panel to seek village administrator begins work

RANTOUL — A committee formed to help select a new village administrator held its first meeting last week.

Human resources Director Tony Peyton said the meeting, which lasted about an hour, was more of a "get-to-know-each-other session than anything else."

He said the panel will likely have two or three more meetings as it pores over the 30 resumes submitted for the position. Peyton said it will be up to the committee to decide how to proceed with the recommendation process.

He said the committee agreed to look at the top 15 applicants by the next meeting, set for Wednesday, putting the least-qualified ones at the bottom of the stack.

The committee is expected to select a list of top candidates and recommend them to the village board and Mayor Chuck Smith for final consideration.

Smith terminated the contract of Village Administrator Bruce Sandahl in February. In the meantime, Smith, Comptroller Scot Brandon and village attorney Ken Beth have assumed the administrator's duties.

The committee's members include trustees Jennifer Fox and Tony Brown; Michael Daugherty, president and manager of Community Plus Federal Credit Union; Saundra Uhlott, member of the Rantoul City Schools board; Diane Michaels, assistant branch manager at First Bank; and Ken Crawford, pastor at Rantoul's First Baptist Church.
