Catlin school improvements moving forward

CATLIN — District officials advanced several building improvement projects this week:

— Advanced Roofing of Champaign will remove and replace a leaking portion of the roof over the junior high gymnasium this summer for about $88,000. The work will be partly financed by a $50,000 school maintenance grant from the state.

Superintendent Gary Lewis said the company may replace a leaking portion of the roof over the junior high locker room at a cost of about $12,500, as well, if no complications arise during the bigger job.

— The school board voted to have Midwest Communications of Danville replace all the phones throughout the district at a cost of about $25,000, and to replace the 1980s-era public address system in both Catlin Grade School and Catlin High School at a combined cost of about $32,000.

— Central Illinois Window Tinting of Champaign will add a safety coating to the windows in the east wing of Catlin Grade School for about $6,700.

The board also voted increase student prices for hot lunches.

K-8 students will now pay $2.50 for a hot lunch. High school students will pay $2.75. That's an increase of 25 cents per meal for both groups.

Students receiving a reduced-price lunch will now pay $1.00 — about double the current price — for a hot lunch.

Adults will continue to be charged $3 for a hot lunch.
