Vacant Champaign home damaged by fire

CHAMPAIGN — Fire damaged a vacant home in Champaign late Thursday.

Champaign fire Lt. Darrell Carlson said firefighters found fire coming through the roof of the single-story ranch home at 705 Kenwood Road when they arrived about 11:15 p.m.

The fire was on the back corner of the house, he said, and firefighters had it out fast.

Carlson said power to the home was on even though no one was living there.

Firefighters left just before 1 a.m. Friday.

Fire Marshal John Koller said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. He estimated damage at $20,000.

Koller listed the property owner as Baraka Properties.
