Bloomington man gets 85 years for sex assault
CLINTON — A Bloomington man convicted of sexually molesting a child on multiple occasions could spend the rest of his life in prison.
On Tuesday, Judge Hugh Finson sentenced Duane T. Thackrey, 28, to a total of 85 years in prison.
Thackrey was convicted on March 3 of five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
DeWitt County State’s Attorney Karle Koritz said Thackrey was sentenced to 15 years for each of the predatory criminal sexual assault counts and 10 years for the aggravated criminal sexual abuse count.
Each of the sentences is to be served consecutively because he was convicted of separate acts involving the girl.
Thackrey will receive credit for 142 days already served.
A jury convicted Thackrey for multiple sex acts with a girl under 12 between January 2011 and July 2012 in Clinton.
Thackrey stopped showing up for the last few days of his trial, but the trail continued in his absence. After the trial concluded and Thackrey was convicted, Finson issued a warrant for Thackrey’s arrest.
Then the DeWitt County sheriff’s office and the U.S. Marshal’s Service worked together to find and arrest Thackrey on March 10 in Elwood, Ind., where it’s thought he had family.
