Car crashes into McDonald's

CHAMPAIGN — The McDonald’s restaurant at 2902 W. Kirby Ave., C, is still open after a car hit the west side of its building late Monday morning.

“Nobody was hurt and that was the important thing,” said owner/operator Scott Miller.

The name of the driver wasn’t available.

The car hit the building on the side where the restrooms are located, Miller said.

A window was shattered, spraying glass into the food of some customers who were sitting nearby, and they were given refunds, Miller said.

There is a “good amount of damage” to the building frame and window, he said. A structural engineer has been called to assess the damage, he added.

Everyone sitting inside near the crash site was checked out by medical and Champaign Fire  Department crews and everyone was fine, according to Champaign  Fire Marshall John Koller.
