Work starts on Main, Lincoln in Mahomet

MAHOMET — Crews will start working on Mahomet's Main Street today, providing a smoother roadway for drivers.

Village of Mahomet Public Works Director Gary LaForge said workers from Cross Construction are expected to start milling the roadway Monday, with a first lift of asphalt pavement poured Tuesday. If the weather holds, the work could be finished by Wednesday. The official end to the project is Friday.

Workers will also resurface Lincoln Street from Franklin to the alley behind J.T. Walker's. Digital signs informing drivers about the project have already gone up on both ends of Main Street.

That area will be closed to drivers from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In the evenings, there will be limited traffic through the work zone.

In addition, no on-street parking will be available on those sections of Main and Lincoln. Patrons of downtown businesses can park their cars in the lot next to the fire station, on the east end of Main Street, or on Elm Street.

The project carries a $83,450 price tag.
