Turpin, Fraser receive Broadcast Pioneer awards

Two longtime Champaign broadcasters in radio and in television were honored Wednesday for their contributions to the industry.

During the Illinois Broadcasters Association Convention at the iHotel in Champaign, WDWS radio's Jim Turpin and WCIA televison's Judy Fraser were each honored with the Broadcast Pioneer Award.

Turpin has been the host of A Penny for Your Thoughts on WDWS for more than 30 years and was the voice of the Illini for more than 40 years.  Turpin told the audience at Wednesday's convention that the award means a lot to him.

Fraser, who was a meteorologist for WCIA for 35 years, told the crowd Wednesday that making a difference for other people over the years is what means most to her.
