Rail crossing work to mean detours in Danville

DANVILLE — Drivers in Danville and Tilton will have to contend with various closings of about 18 streets next week as the CSX Railroad makes improvements to portions of its rail lines from crossing on Catlin Road south of Tilton to the crossing on Section Street in the center of Danville.

The work will begin Monday and will require closing the 18 rail crossings at various times through at least Friday. The railroad will be replacing rail ties and paving the crossings. The work is scheduled to be done by Friday but could take longer if weather delays it, according to officials with the project. Detour signs will be posted to help drivers navigate around the various closings.

The CSX rail crossings on the following 18 streets will be affected: Catlin Road on the south side of Tilton; Hegeler Road and Private Road; Oakwood Avenue in the Heights on Danville's southwest side; and in Danville, the crossings on Logan Avenue, North Grant Street, Chandler Street, Harmon Street, Robinson Avenue, Williams Street, Gilbert Street, Oak Street, Franklin Street, Walnut Street, Vermilion Street, Hazel Street, Jackson Street and Section Street.
