Two-vehicle crash south of Savoy injures five

SAVOY - A Newman woman and four children were injured when the woman reportedly turned in front of a pickup truck Friday afternoon.

A release from the Illinois State Police at Pesotum said the accident happened at 5:20 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 45 and County Road 900 N, about three miles south of Savoy.

The release said Alicia J. Merritt, 41, was southbound on 45 in a minivan with four juveniles when she turned left on to 900 N in front of a northbound pickup.

The driver of the pickup was a 23-year-old man from St. Joseph. He was not injured when his pickup hit the van.

Merritt and the four children were taken to an undisclosed hospital for what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.

Under a recently adopted policy, Illinois State Police refuse to release the names of the others involved in the crash.

Merritt was ticketed for failure to yield and for not having a driver's license.
