Man arrested after police find drugs in his pocket

URBANA — Police who were looking for a robbery suspect instead found a man carrying assorted drugs in his pocket over the weekend.

Daytreon Damonlee Pettis, 21, who listed an address in the 1300 block of Mitchem Drive, Urbana, was charged Monday with delivery or possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of cannabis.

Pettis is being held at the Champaign County Jail on $15,000 bond.

He is due back in court on Aug. 5.

According to an Urbana police report, officers were looking for a robbery suspect at 2 a.m. Saturday when they saw Pettis walking near the intersection of Florida Avenue and Philo Road.

Since police thought Pettis looked similar in appearance to the robber the officers were looking for, they stopped Pettis.

When police searched the man, they found 60 prescription pain pills, two plastic baggies containing 1.07 grams (0.0377 ounces) of marijuana, 60 hydrocodone pills in a plain bottle and $130 cash, all in his pockets.

Officers then arrested Pettis and took him to the county jail.
