Cause of Urbana area trailer fire to stay undetermined for now

The head of the Edge Scott Fire Protection District said the cause of a fire that destroyed two trailers and damaged a third on Tuesday afternoon northeast of Urbana could remain undetermined.

Edge Scott Fire Chief Dan Smith said the blaze at 16 Toni Lane started in the back end of the trailer in a shed-like structure before spreading to a trailer to the north.  Smith said both trailers are a total loss, while some of the siding on a trailer to the south melted.  He said investigators don't believe the cause of the fire is suspicious, but he said unless an insurance company does its own investigation, the cause of blaze will likely stay undetermined.

Smith says damages to all three trailers are estimated at a total of $60,000 to $70,000. No injuries were reported.  Several area fire departments assisted Edge Scott in fighting the blaze and providing mutual aid.
