Apartment fire displaces one

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign firefighters are investigating the cause of a Friday night fire that left an apartment unliveable.

Firefighters were called to 104 Buena Vista Drive, just west of Neil Street and about two blocks north of Kirby Avenue at 9:17 p.m. A caller had reported smoke coming from a chimney.

They found a small fire in a bedroom of apartment No. 1, which they put out within minutes with a single hose line.

A release said one firefighter was slightly hurt but was able to keep working.

Only the single occupant of that apartment was displaced. No other apartments in the small complex were affected, firefighters said.

Firefighters list the owner of the property as Thomas Rentals, LLC.
