I-57/74 interchange work to resume next week

Editor's note: Here's our ongoing list of road work in the area.

Closures of ramps at the interchange of Interstates 57 and 74 will resume on July 7.

The closures will allow for a "high-friction surface" to be installed on the ramps, where there have been more accidents than at any other interstate interchange in Champaign, according to state data.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says individual ramps will be closed on the following schedule, weather permitting:

— July 7: Ramp from I-74 eastbound to I-57 northbound will close. It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 8: Ramp from I-74 westbound to I-57 northbound will close. It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 9: Ramp from I-74 westbound to I-57 southbound will close. It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 10: Ramp from I-74 eastbound to I-57 southbound will close. It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 10: Ramp from I-57 northbound to I-74 westbound will close (if the I-74 eastbound to I-57 southbound ramp has reopened on schedule). It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 11: Ramp from I-57 northbound to I-74 eastbound will close. It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 14: Ramp from I-57 southbound to I-74 eastbound will close. It will reopen the same day or the next morning.

— July 14: Ramp from I-57 southbound to I-74 westbound will close (if the I-57 southbound to I-74 eastbound ramp has reopened on schedule). It will reopen the same day or the next morning.
