Alcohol a factor in Douglas County crash

CAMARGO - A Villa Grove teen was hospitalized Thursday in serious condition after crashing into a tree Wednesday night.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Dane R. Chandler, 19, was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol and other offenses following the crash at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday on Illinois 130 about a mile north of Camargo.

Police said Chandler and a passenger were northbound on 130 at Douglas County Road 1150 N when he lost control of his Jeep Grand Cherokee, went off the road to the left, and crashed into a tree.

Both Chandler and his passenger, whose name was not released, had to be cut from the SUV. Chandler was transported by helicopter to Carle Foundation Hospital.

Chandler was also issued tickets for no valid driver's license, improper lane usage, and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
