Mansfield man arrested, not yet charged, in molestation case
MONTICELLO — A Mansfield man was arrested last week for allegedly sexually molesting young girls.
Piatt County Sheriff Dave Hunt said Paul D. Reynolds, 47, was taken into custody June 27 as he was returning from a business trip in Oklahoma.
Hunt said sheriff's investigators felt they had enough information to arrest Reynolds for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of a child. However, no formal charges have yet been filed by the state's attorney's office as the case remains under investigation.
Hunt said it's alleged that Reynolds may have had inappropriate sexual contact with as many as four girls, all under the age of 18, as far back as 2006 and continuing until recently.
Reynolds remained in the Piatt County jail last weekend and was released Tuesday after posting $25,000 cash. He was told to be back in court July 29.
Sgt. J.D. Russell said he's conducted forensic interviews with two of the alleged victims and has also spoken with Reynolds since his arrest.
He said his investigation is ongoing.
Reynolds was featured in a January article in The News-Gazette about serious injuries he sustained in May 2013 when he was hit by a Champaign teen who collided with his motorcycle, knocking Reynolds off and running over him — twice — before fleeing the scene.
Reynolds runs his own helicopter crop-dusting business.
