Probation for Rantoul shoplifter

URBANA — A Rantoul man who admitted stealing from a Rantoul store has been sentenced to two years of probation.

Christopher Barragan, 18, who listed an address in the 700 block of Cantonment, pleaded guilty before Judge Tom Difanis Wednesday to retail theft with a prior burglary conviction for stealing a 50-inch television from the Rantoul Wal-Mart on Nov. 5.

In exchange for the guilty plea, Assistant State’s Attorney Troy Lozar dismissed another case charging Barragan with residential burglary for allegedly entering a home in the 1300 block of Harmon Drive in Rantoul on April 4.

Barragan was ordered to have no contact with that address or the occupant.

Wow... Probation for burglary and felony theft.  (Wouldn't stealing a 50" TV be felony theft?)    What a DEAL!

Just another Julia Reitz success story.  What a miserable failure that she and her office continues to be.
