In 1914: The T.D. Wilson lot sale in Champaign on July 16 will feature two flying exhibitions by well-known aviator Henry Cole. Forty-four lots are to be sold and Cole will give a flight before and after each sale. Cole will fly his 8-cylinder, 80-horsepower Curtis biplane.

In 1964: Voluntary donations toward the 1965 Champaign County Freedom Celebration added up to $11,041, according to finance chairman Lyle Blue. The previous record for donations to the local Independence Day committee was $9,554.

In 1999: A field of 14 lawyers are trying to become Champaign County's next associate judge, to replace Donald Parkinson who stepped down in May after 16 years on the bench. The list includes veteran prosecutors John Kennedy and Heidi Ladd, Champaign attorney Brian McPheters, and Urbana attorneys Roger Webber and Marvin Gerstein.
