School officials start new posts in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Four new administrative appointees began their first full weeks on the job Monday at Unit 4 schools:

— Candace Gwin, interim principal, International Prep Academy.

It's Gwin's fourth stop in the district following stints at Robeson Elementary (fifth-grade teacher), Barkstall Elementary (third-grade teacher) and Booker T. Washington Elementary (assistant principal since February 2012).

— Mykah Jackson, assistant principal, Booker T. Washington.

The Centennial High School graduate started teaching social science at Franklin Middle School in 2007 and later taught in the Advancement Via Individual Determination program for six years.

— Jason Pope, assistant principal, Robeson.

Pope, most recently the principal at Decatur's Oak Grove Elementary, previously held jobs as music instructor for the Excelsior Springs (Mo.) school district and as music, band and choral instructor for the Diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph, Mo.

— Liza Thomas, interim assistant principal, Barkstall.

Thomas has worked in Unit 4 schools since 2004, most recently as a cross categorical special education teacher at Centennial and Columbia Center. Thomas is certified in therapeutic crisis intervention and in non-violent crisis intervention.
