In 2007, EDDIE MONEY was booked to play the Canopy Club in Urbana.
"The show ended up getting cancelled due to some last-minute scheduling conflicts," said Mike Armintrout, director of marketing and senior talent buyer for Jay Goldberg Events & Entertainment and the Canopy Club. "I have worked with him before and he always puts on a great show."
The 65-year-old rocker — and insurance pitchman — has scheduled another trip to Urbana for the Sweetcorn Festival on Aug. 23. We turned to Armintrout for the scoop:
I say Eddie Money, you say ...
I've got two tickets to paradise.
Would he be welcomed back at the Canopy Club?
If the stars aligned and the date made sense — of course.
You get one song to listen to — name it.
Probably "Shakin'" or "Take Me Home Tonight." When I promoted my first date with Eddie Money back in the early 2000s in Peoria, I spent a lot of time listening to him after the show. I knew that I was familiar with some Eddie Money songs, but at the show I literally knew every song and almost every chorus to each song. It was a little eerie. These two stood out to me as my faves. However, I should note that I don't have any Eddie Money on my iPhone in regular rotation.
Is he better known for his music or his Geico commercial?
That's a tough one. I'd hope he's still known for his music and not the Geico commercial but as younger generations get into music, chances are he'll be known more for Two Tickets on the Geico commercial — unless they dig into the catalog.
