Man wanted in Champaign shooting turns self in
URBANA — One of two men wanted in connection with a northwest Champaign shooting last month turned himself into authorities early Thursday.
Paul E. Craig, 39, whose last known address was in the 1200 block of Paula Drive, Champaign, was booked into the Champaign County Jail just before 2 a.m. on charges of being an armed habitual criminal and unlawful use of weapons.
The charges were filed against him July 2. He is alleged to have been present on June 24 when Allen Redding, 26, was fatally shot in the 1500 block of Hedge Road.
Craig joins his brother, Devon D. Craig, 37, of the 1200 block of Paula Drive, Champaign, who is already being held on nine counts of first-degree murder and being an armed habitual criminal.
Paul Craig is being held on $750,000 bond. He's due back in court July 25 for a probable cause hearing.
His brother is being held on $1 million bond.
Police are still looking for a third man charged with Mr. Redding’s murder. Micah Hopkins, 30, last of the 1300 block of North Harris Street, Champaign, is also charged with unlawful possession of weapon by a felon and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
All three men were charged shortly after the shooting with the weapons offenses.
First Assistant State’s Attorney Steve Ziegler added the murder charges against Hopkins and Devon Craig on Tuesday.
