Rantoul OKs sidewalk cafe

RANTOUL — The village board this week signed off on a proposal that will allow a sidewalk cafe in front of a Rantoul business.

A representative of Java Connection, 107 E. Sangamon Ave., had approached the village about allowing patrons to eat their food or drink their coffee outdoors in front of the business.

The company asked for permission to place cafe-style chair and table sets on the sidewalk. The sets will be placed in front of the south-facing windows on both the east and west sides of the main entrance to the building.

The board approved a license agreement with the business.

Board members said the most important part of the agreement must be that foot traffic is still able to use the sidewalk.
