Bus company owner charged with online harassment

The owner of a local bus company has been charged in northern Illinois after allegedly harassing a customer online.

Highland Park Deputy Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter said Suburban Express owner Dennis Toeppen is due in Lake County court on Aug. 1 on two charges of electronic harassment.

Pfutzenreuter said a Highland Park resident who at the time was a University of Illinois student contacted police saying that Toeppen was harassing him on the website Reddit and on the Suburban Express website.  He said the harassment stemmed from a bus ride the customer took where he witnessed the bus driver yell at another customer.

Police investigated and found that the alleged harassment occurred over a period dating back to the spring of 2013.  Acting on a warrant, authorities arrested Toeppen in Champaign County earlier this month.  He posted bond and is out of jail.

Toeppen, himself, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

When I google "Suburban Express" and "Highland Park" I get this:

To me, student seems like the aggressor. Also, I wonder why Highland Park PD took this. Did Champaign Police refuse to take action?

This has a long history, gazcomment. On the wiki, see business practices and lawsuits: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suburban_Express.

Of course the article on Suburban Express' website will make it look like the student was the aggressor.

Dennis Toeppen responded to each and every Yelp review for Suburban Express and those reviews/responses give a much more accurate depiction of the type of company SubEx is, and the type of owner/personality Mr. Toeppen is.

I wouldn't be surprised if the above user, gazcomment, was Dennis himself.

I looked where you said. Eight of twenty one reviews do not have a response so I don't understand what you are alledging.

Ok Dennis.

Toeppen still responded to the other 13 reviews, and his attitude shows he has problems responding to criticism in a positive manner.

The fact that he did not comment on 8 of the reviews is irrelevant.

I don't know who you are, and I don't know why you are convinced that my name is Dennis. You claimed that the business had responded to all reviews on yelp, so I went there and had a look. But what you siad is not true. They did not respond "to each and every yelp review for Suburban Express"  8 of 21 of the reviews have no response and that is a pretty big perentage. Why are you here making false statements? That's not helping the discussion.

Ok Dennis.

The business has responded to 61.9% of their Yelp reviews, happy?

Those 61.9% of responses are clearly indicative of what kind of company Suburban Express is.  He called you Dennis becuase you either are him or have some incentive to deflect over meaningless generalizations.

Also, the guy is clearly a jerk.

Toeppen has a history of harassing and intimidating people who speak out against him.

For example, Toeppen has been harassing people who write negative reviews about his business, Suburban Express on Yelp. This includes stalking a reviewer and posting comments about where he/she lives. http://www.yelp.com/biz/suburban-express-champaign
