Please, stop with the incomplete description stuff.  Surely you are capable of reading the police media reports!

Do News-Gazette newspaper stories have the intent of informing the public about events relevant to public safety, or is the purpose of the articles to engender fear while obfuscating information useful to the public in staying safe?

The N-G frequently reports descriptions of the suspects in crimes, if the description is thorough enough.

Is it really that useful to know that the offender is a black guy in his 30's of average height and weight?  That description probably fits at least a couple thousand people in this community.

What, you expect a description must include that the suspect must have their name tattooed on their forehead before reporting a description in the paper?  If the perpetrator didn't have 3 arms the description isn't detailed enough to help???

A description doesn't need to be perfect to help an investigation.

If you know someone with this description and who was wearing this kind of clothing on that day and time, then call it in.  Especially if they show signs of having been hit in the nose!

If the description said the perpetrator was white there would be even more people in town matching the description.  I still would want the description published.

A crime was committed, so publish the description you have along with the place and time of the crime!  Maybe someone who knows them saw them there.
