Man sought in robbery of Champaign bank

CHAMPAIGN — Police are looking for a man who robbed the Chase bank near downtown Champaign on Friday afternoon.

Champaign police Deputy Chief Troy Daniels said the man gave a "threatening note" to a bank employee, and the employee handed over an undisclosed amount of cash around 3 p.m. Friday. The man then fled on foot southbound from the bank at 201 W. University Ave.

According to Daniels, the suspect is a white man with dirty blonde hair, about 6 feet tall and 185 pounds, wearing black shorts, a blue shirt and a red and blue Budweiser hat. Police believe his hair was stuffed into his hat to make it appear shorter.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Champaign Police Department at 217-351-4545. Or callers can remain anonymous by contacting Champaign County Crimestoppers at 373-8477.

Information may also be left anonymously online at 373tips.com or by cellphone text message by sending CCTIP plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
