Alcohol cited in I-57 pedestrian incident

ASHKUM — A 53-year-old Kankakee woman who was struck by a car on Interstate 57 in northern Iroquois County on Monday night has been ticketed for improper walking on a highway and being a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol.

District 21 Illinois State Police said in a news release that Eula M. Scott, 53, was walking south in the northbound lanes of I-57 near milepost 292 when the accident occurred shortly before midnight. As she was walking in the left lane on the yellow fog line, she was struck by a 1991 Toyota driven by a 28-year-old Urbana man, whose name was not released.

A state trooper noticed several clues of intoxication upon speaking with Scott, who admitted to drinking alcohol, the release said.

Scott was transported to a local hospital with injuries.
