Donated-clothing agency plans fundraiser
CHAMPAIGN — His Kid's Closet will hold a fall fashion show Saturday to help raise money to serve more families.
It will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Community Church, 2901 Watterson Court, C, with a suggested admission donation for adults of $3. Kids get in free.
A Christian organization that takes in donated children's clothing and distributes them to kids in need in the Champaign-Urbana area, His Kid's Closet has recruited children to model the clothing, and all items in the show are used items that have been donated to the organization, said founder Carolyn Morris.
"We've got kids from all over the community who have signed up to walk in the show," she said.
The fashion show will feature 2014 Miss Illinois Marisa Buchheit as its MC, and is expected to last about a half-hour to keep it kid-friendly, Morris says. There will also be face-painting for kids and a silent auction afterward for adults with reasonably priced items ranging from used flower girl dresses to sports equipment, she said.
This is His Kid's Closet's first fund-raiser. The organization has a lot of donated clothing, and hopes to use the proceeds to hire help to get all these donations out to kids in the community more effectively, Morris said.
