Driver injured in eastern Champaign County crash

HOMER - A Homer man was thrown from his pickup truck Monday night in an apparent drunken driving crash.

Illinois State Police at Pesotum said Austin Michael Dearth, 21, was driving south on Illinois 49 near the Homer Lake Road at 8:30 p.m. when his truck veered off the road.

He hit a culvert, sending the truck airborne. It rolled several times, throwing him out.

Dearth was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital by AirLife. His condition was not available this morning.

He was ticketed for driving under the influence of alcohol, operating an uninsured vehicle, not wearing a seat belt and improper lane usage, police said.
