Quick action keeps Urbana fire contained

URBANA — Firefighters had a house fire in east Urbana under control in about 15 minutes Thursday afternoon.

Edge-Scott firefighters were called to the home at 401 Dale III Lane about 2:45 p.m. and had it struck by 3:02 p.m.

The fire was contained to a utility room of the single-story house, according to Edge-Scott Fire Capt. Taylor Clark.

A mother and her children were home at the time and got out safely, he said.

Quick action to shut off the room kept the fire from spreading to other areas of the house, Clark said.

Although the cause of the fire remains under investigation, it did not appear to be suspicious, he said.

The fire was in a home very close to two homes that were destroyed by fire six weeks ago.

On June 24, a fire at 16 Toni Lane was so intense that it jumped next door to 15 Toni Lane. Both mobile homes were destroyed and the heat from the fires damaged a third mobile home on Toni Lane. An electrical problem was believed to be the cause of the fire at 16 Toni Lane.

The house were the fire was Thursday is not a mobile home but a single-story wood-frame structure.

Toni Lane and Dale III Lane parallel each other in the Woodland Acres Mobile Home Park, which is just north of U.S. 150.
