Collection planned for Dump & Run

Collection planned for Dump & Run

CHAMPAIGN — The bicycle your child has outgrown. The sofa that never quite fit in your living room. The set of glasses you no longer use.

The University YMCA will soon start collecting them all — and other reusable items — for its annual Dump & Run sale.

This year, the Y has partnered with the Stephens Family YMCA in southwest Champaign as a collection site and it plans to offer a pickup service for donated bicycles and furniture on Saturday. The sale itself will be Aug. 23 and 24 in the University of Illinois Stock Pavilion, 1402 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Urbana.

Saturday, the Stephens Family YMCA (2501 South Fields Drive, C) will have a community recycling site in front of its building for those who wish to donate furniture and bikes only during its hours of operation.

Also on Saturday, volunteers with the University YMCA will pick up donated furniture or bikes between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for pickup, call the University YMCA at 217-337-1500.

Volunteers are needed. People who put in six or more hours of help can attend the volunteer pre-sale, University YMCA communications director Megan Flowers said.

In addition to the Saturday collection, anyone can drop off any items at the Stock Pavilion during August Collection Days, which run Aug. 13-16. Collection time and dates are as follows: 8:30 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 13; 8:30 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 14; 8:30 a.m. to noon and 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 15; and 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 16.

A list of items what items are accepted or not accepted can be found at the University Y's Dump and Run website.

The Dump & Run Sale will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 23, with a $2 admission (UI international students get in free); and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Aug. 24, when there will be a $3 bag sale and half-price price furniture. From 2:30 to 4 p.m. that day, remaining items are free.

This is the Y's 13th year of organizing the event.

While you are enjoying your gently used furniture, enjoy the bed bug infestation you have introduced to your place.
