Charity update: Day care planning reunion block party

CHAMPAIGN — Pearl's Day Care will mark 26 years with a reunion block party starting at noon Aug. 30.

The party will include food and a chance for families and children who have attended the center to at 505 E. Washington St., C, to celebrate, said owner Pearl Buchanan.

The celebration can also be a reminder about the need for positive events that promote unity rather than separation and violence, Buchanan said.

She hopes to raise $5,000 through sponsors and cash donations to help pick up the cost of food and other expenses of the event.

Group plans camper raffle

CHAMPAIGN — Want a chance to win a camper?

C-U at Home, a not-for-profit organization that helps the homeless, is selling raffle tickets to win a camper and plans to use the money raised to help people living on the streets.

The 24-foot Coachmen travel trailer that was donated to the organization is parked in front of its new Phoenix daytime drop-in center for the homeless at 215 S. Neil St., C.

Raffle tickets are $10, and are on sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the center. Make checks payable to C-U at Home.

The grand opening of the Phoenix will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 16.
