Domestic dispute ends in shooting

CHAMPAIGN - A 40-year-old man was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound following an argument with his father early Saturday.

Champaign police Sgt. Bruce Ramseyer said police were called to the 700 block of Tawney Court, just north of Bradley Avenue, about 1:45 a.m. where the 40-year-old son had allegedly attacked his 68-year-old father.

The two had been quarreling both inside and outside of the home, he said.

The argument culminated in the father pulling a gun and shooting the son once. The injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

Investigations Lt. Robert Rea said in a news release that police believe the father may have been defending himself so no arrests were made. He said the case would be forwarded to the Champaign County state’s attorney for review.
