UPDATED: Correctional officer dies in motorcycle-car crash

DANVILLE — A Danville man died early Thursday morning from injuries he suffered when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle, according to local law enforcement officials.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson said that Christopher A. Williams, 33, of Danville was pronounced dead at 1:13 a.m. at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville,

Mr. Williams was a correctional officer at the Vermilion County Jail.

Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a 17-year-old female driving a passenger car on Avenue G attempted to cross U.S. 150, which is a divided highway in that area of the Heights neighborhood on Danville’s west edge. Mr. Williams was westbound on U.S. 150 on his motorcycle and collided with the vehicle, Thomason said.

Thomason said the 17-year-old did not suffer serious injury and was the only one in the vehicle. He said the incident is still under investigation by Danville police, but the 17-year-old was ticketed for failure to yield.

Johnson said an autopsy will be performed on Friday.
