Today is Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. Here are news reports from this date 100, 50 and 15 years ago.

In 1914: A Rambler touring car collided with a buggy yesterday afternoon on the Trotter Hill about 5 miles north of Mahomet. As the auto neared the buggy, the horse became frightened and turned in front of the car, throwing two children to the road. The horse ran about a half-mile before it was stopped. The auto ran over the legs of a young girl in the buggy, but no bones were broken.

In 1964: Gov. Otto Kerner planned to battle Illinois football co-captains Dick Butkus and George Donnelly in a milk-guzzling contest today at the Illinois State Fair.

In 1999: Restaurants throughout Champaign County, in areas outside of Champaign-Urbana, have had to get used to unannounced health department inspections as the Champagn County Health Department conducted its first round of inspections.
