Man shot in northwest Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign police are looking for the person who shot a man as he sat in a car in northwest Champaign early Friday.

A release from Champaign police Lt. Robert Rea said police were sent to a hospital at 3:10 a.m. where a 26-year-old man was being treated for a gunshot wound.

The victim, whose injuries were not considered life-threatening, told police he was a passenger in a car parked in a driveway somewhere on Bradley Avenue west of Prospect Avenue.

He said he saw a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt approach, point a black handgun through the open window, and fire one or two rounds. The man was hit once. Police did not say what time the shooting happened.

Police do not currently have any further description of the shooter or an exact location where the shooting occurred.
