Park district says August move for Taste pays off

The head of the Champaign Park District said moving this past weekend's Taste of Champaign-Urbana event to August paid off.

Planners also shortened the annual food fest, which previously took place in June, to just Friday and Saturday instead of three days.

Executive director Joe DeLuce said on Monday's edition of A Penny for Your Thoughts on WDWS that Friday night's turnout was among the best ever.

DeLuce added that good weather played a big role in this year's success. He said it's likely the event will be in August again next year.

Overall, DeLuce estimates between 30,000 to 40,000 visitors attended with over $110,000 in revenue collected for the weekend. The proceeds go toward the park district's youth scholarship program.
