Injury reported in crash on Interstate 74
CHAMPAIGN — One person was reported injured in a five-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon just west of the interchange of interstates 74 and 57.
According to a state police report, all five vehicles were eastbound on I-74 in the right lane when a truck driven by Dana Grubb, 25, of Philo rear-ended a Honda Civic driven by an unidentified 82-year-old man from Oviedo, Fla., at 12:39 p.m. Tuesday.
A passenger in the Civic, an unidentified 76-year-old woman from Oviedo, was injured and taken to an area hospital. State police had no information on her condition on Tuesday evening.
A chain reaction followed those two vehicles. A Toyota Corolla driven by an unidentified 56-year-old Lexington man; a Chevrolet Malibu driven by an unidentified 63-year-old Mahomet woman; and a Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 24-year-old unidentified Farmer City woman were all damaged, but none of those drivers was injured.
Grubb was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured vehicle.
State Trooper Tracy Lillard said traffic on I-74 in the area had merged to a single lane because of a construction project.
